Title:
The Challenges of Water Supply in Santa Cruz County
When:
11/10/2011  6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Where:
Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County - Aptos
Category:
Dinner Meeting

Description

The City of Santa Cruz Water Department (SCWD) and Soquel Creek Water
District (SqCWD) have been collaborating to conserve, protect and create
reliable water resources. After over 20 years of multiple studies and scores of
public meetings, SCWD and SqCWD have identified desalination, along with
conservation and curtailment, as their multi-faceted approach to providing
safe, reliable water to their customers. To take advantage of the benefits
derived from a cooperative facility, SCWD and SqCWD have joined together to
address their different water shortage needs and share the costs associated with
evaluating the proposed desalination project.
The Draft EIR is currently being prepared to analyze the proposed 2.5 million
gallon per day seawater desalination facility in Santa Cruz. There are many complicated issues associated
with the proposed desalination facility, as well as benefits to existing and surface/groundwater sources.
Come learn about the scwd2 project and the myriad of complex and forward
thinking strategies that are being addressed as part of the environmental
review process.
